The Frankie the Frontal Lobe Mood Meter (Mood Meter Project) is designed to assist school staff in identifying and triaging emotional distress for children ages 10-14, an age period when most mental health disorders begin. The program also teaches school staff about the adverse effects of trauma on the brain and how our bodies can regulate emotional distress through breathing, movement, and meditation.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Forcestrongly recommends that children ages 8 to 18 be screened regularly for anxiety disorders and depression. Our Mood Meter is vital to helping students thrive emotionally and we are most proud of the data demonstrating it works. Student surveys from our pilot show that 70% of students better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and actions, how their brain works, and the socio-emotional (SEL) skills they need to be successful in school.
